What our clients have
said about us:

"It's not just what you do, but how you do it that sets you apart."

"Our company has gained an incredible amount from the day. Thank you again for your enthusiasm."

"My son has changed completely. He used to skip school, and I couldn't get a word out of him without an argument. I didn't know what to do. Now he's focused on his work, and he's a lot happier. Your work has really made a difference to him."

"I am more confident and sure of myself. I can speak in public for the first time in my life."

"Thank you, again, for giving my kids such a fantastic day out in the woods. They came home muddy, and beaming, just like last time! It's given me a chance to get on with my chores, safe in the knowledge that they are being well looked after."

About Us

What is Frontiers?

Frontiers is a charity which provides exciting, educational Men carrying logscourses, activities and events for teenagers, children, schools and other organisations. Our emphasis is on empowerment, leadership and our relationship with others and our surroundings.

All profits from our activities go towards running New Horizons, our alternative curriculum for disadvantaged teenagers.

With two bases near Oxford and Reading, we can work with young people from the entire Thames Valley area.

Our Staff Team

Established in January 2005, Frontiers is the result of over two decades of experience, design and development by founders Jon Berry, from 5th Model Solutions Ltd (right in photo) and David Goodworth from Wild Life.

With extensive training in teaching, behaviour management, coaching, NLP, youth & community work, our staff team includes youth workers, canoeing, caving and skiing instructors, facilitators, teachers and outdoor expedition leaders.

Our Approach

For students on our alternative curriculum, New Horizons, we use positive strategies (also known as non-aversive strategies), which do not use punishment to modify behaviour. A non-aversive approach involves understanding why the child or young person is behaving in challenging ways, and aims to teach more appropriate ways to meet their needs. We apply our pioneering Enablement Model, which combines six key elements: family, self-reliance, visualisation, esteem, identity and perspective, to lead students to greater maturity.

Our Principles of Practice are based on RESPECT: For ourselves, for those around us, for our environment, for equipment, materials and belongings.

Building Partnerships

People in canoesFrontiers has developed partnerships with local organisations such as Connexions, South Oxfordshire Schools Partnership, Include, CfBT Education Trust, Engaging Potential, local Pupil Referral Units (Meadowbrook College, The Porch, Kingfisher), Youth Offending Teams (Slough & West Berkshire), West Berkshire Council, and around twenty schools in Oxfordshire and West Berkshire. Through these partnerships we assess needs of young people and devise appropriate services.

We also work with local businesses that can help students move into employment and further training in areas such as estate management, sawmills, blacksmiths, builders and thatchers.
