Frontiers - Adventures in Learning

Staff INSET days

We run specialist training programmes for teachers and trainers in schools and youth groups, focussing on effective solutions to bullying, anger or behaviour management.

We focus on positive strategies which, rather than using punishment to modify behaviour, seek to understand why a young person is behaving in challenging ways and teach more appropriate ways to meet their needs.

Our training is based on our pioneering Enablement Model, which combines six key elements: family, self-reliance, visualisation, esteem, identity, and perspective, to lead our students to greater maturity.

High-impact Intensives

Powerful one to three-day programmes which develop teamwork, leadership skills, confidence and communication skills. We tailor-make each activity, with a different focus for each Key Stage.

Groups often use our activities to establish team building at the beginning of a key stage or new school year, to embed classroom learning, or as a group celebration for the end of the year.

Some of our intensives are as follows:

  • Year Group Events

    • Woodland Team Challenge
A fun day in the woods, which builds teamwork & self-awareness (KS4/5)
    • Presentation Skills (KS4/5)
      Confidence-building and presentation training
    • Learning Styles and Goal Setting (KS4/5)
Powerful techniques to set goals and move forwards.
    • Introduction to Bushcraft (KS1/2/3/4/5)
Firelighting, shelter-building, tracking, tools and more.
    • Sustainable Enterprise (KS3/4/5)
    • Covert Operations (KS4/5)
A two-day competitive, scenario-based learning experience, which foster individual and team strengths.
    • Personal Development (KS4/5)
A three-day re-engagement programme, taking students into the woods and given them a fresh perspective
  • Overnight Camps
    • Woodland Camp
Build a shelter, make a fire, track animals and cook over the fire.
    • Canoe Expedition
An exciting 2-day adventure in the river, including bushcraft training, e.g. shelter building, tracking & camouflage
Primary Schools

We work with primary schools to deliver fun, educational days out in the woods, which can be tailor-made to Key Stages 1 & 2.

As well as the Curriculum Enhancement and Woodland Team Challenge, we run outdoor study programmes for a class (or other group) of children, which develops organisational skills, social interaction, independent learning, sensory awareness, self-esteem, problem solving, conflict resolution and decision making.

A wide range of activities are available in our programmes, including:

  • Animal handling
  • Shelter building
  • Cooking food over a fire
  • Woodland arts, crafts & games
  • Planting, growing & harvesting plants
  • Becoming familiar with the outdoors

Please contact us to arrange a programme to suit your needs.

Special Educational Needs (SEN) Children

We specialise in running activities for children with SEN, and all the above activities can be tailor-made to meet the needs of your children.

We work with SENCos, teachers and other agencies, provide group IEPs (if applicable) and information for IEP reviews and targets. The programme is available as one off days, or as a continuing course.
